Equipment for generating electricity – gas-fired power plants.

This equipment not only generates electricity with precisely defined characteristics but also produces thermal energy as a byproduct (cogeneration).

Gas piston power plants have a simple and reliable design, proven over decades of operation in a wide range of climatic conditions. The electrical efficiency of gas piston power plants is considered high, compared to, for example, turbines and microturbines, and when running on high-quality natural gas, it reaches 45-50%.

This means that to produce the same amount of electricity, compared to turbines, gas piston power plants consume one-third (!) less natural gas.

Gas piston power plants are available in a wide range of unit electrical power ratings, from 9,000 kW to 100 MW. This is the primary power range. This means that in the low and medium ranges, consumers can obtain virtually any electrical power rating from an autonomous gas piston power plant.

Almost all models and brands of gas piston power plants with extended configurations are capable of operating in cogeneration mode, i. e., as thermal power plants. The exhaust gas temperature at the outlet of a gas piston power plant's power machine is approximately 390 ± 10°C. This temperature allows for the easy production of virtually free thermal energy in cogeneration mode.

The ratio of electricity to thermal energy output is 1:0.9, meaning that 1 MW of installed electrical capacity can generate 0.9 Gcal of thermal energy.

Gas piston power plants generate electricity from various types of gaseous fuel. Power plants operate on:
natural gas,
biogas,
associated gas,
mine gas,
wastewater treatment plant gas,
landfill gas.

MWM cogeneration units can operate reliably on gaseous fuels with a methane content of 25%.
